THE BLACK

I can see the black, it lurks all around me
like a hunger ready to feed.
I can touch it, but can not feel it.
This is the warning I cannot read.

My eyes see the nothing,
and the nothing becomes the black.
The black becomes the fear
of which I do not lack.

My thoughts are turning to blur,
of a constant mirage of things that lurk.
I tremble and shake to an answer I can’t make,
for the answer is that which will give me the cure.

I cry out for love, I cry out for them.
will they get here before the black does me in?
I try to move, but is there something there?
Something in the black which lives upon my stare?
Will it enter my dreams to become a nightmare?

Suddenly, a glimmer of light seems to eat the black away.
As if its crawling to corners for another time to rise.
My hopes and fears are replaced by tears,
as the black slowly dies.

My love had brought them to my side,
and they reassured me not to hide.
For as they left from my sight,
my mom and dad left on the light.
